Objetivos

El grupo de investigación ;Language and education ; lenguaje y educación; nace a partir de la premisa, formulada en un primero momento por Lev Vygotsky, de que el desarrollo lingüístico y el desarrollo del pensamiento van de la mano, y que uno determina al otro. El lenguaje permite el acceso a los conocimientos, al mismo tiempo que los estructura y hace posible su comunicación. De allí que potenciar el desarrollo lingüístico sea crucial para facilitar el acceso a los conocimientos, el desarrollo de conceptualizaciones y la participación en el mundo.
En nuestro contexto el papel preponderante del lenguaje en la educación queda de manifiesto con mayor claridad, si cabe, como consecuencia de dos fenómenos relativamente recientes: la incorporación de numerosos alumnos inmigrantes a nuestro sistema educativo, y la implantación de proyectos de educación bilingüe. Estas realidades educativas plantean numerosos retos a los que el grupo de investigación quiere dar respuesta tanto desde un plano más investigador como desde una perspectiva más aplicada a la enseñanza:
¿cómo se puede integrar el desarrollo lingüístico en los ya sobrecargados currículos de las asignaturas de contenido?
¿qué propuestas metodológicas existen para la enseñanza de la lengua extranjera en contextos de enseñanza bilingüe en los que la lengua extranjera es, al mismo tiempo, lengua de instrucción?
¿cómo se relaciona el desarrollo de la L1 con el éxito escolar en contextos en los que la lengua vehicular es una L2 o lengua extranjera?
¿cómo se trabaja el desarrollo de lo que en el mundo anglosajón se denomina como literacy?
Tal y como se desprende de su currículum investigador, el grupo cuenta con gran experiencia en la investigación en este campo, al mismo tiempo que ha tenido ocasión de desarrollar, implementar y asesorar en la implementación de programas de enseñanza de la lengua extranjera y enseñanza bilingüe.
