Goals and competences

The goals of this Master's degree are in line with the stipulates of the Spanish Framework for Higher Education Qualifications (MECES) and ensure the achievement of the basic competences required to obtain a master's degree, in accordance with article 3.3, Appendix I of R.D. 1393/2007.

Fulfilment of the goals means students have achieved competences which must be consistent with the fundamental rights of equality between men and women, with the principles of equal opportunities and of universal accessibility for the disabled, and with the values proper to a democratic and peace-loving culture.

This Master's will train students in fields related to Big Data  technology and Business Analytics based on data science. Students will study, among others:

  • Social network analysis

  • Machine learning

  • Natural language processing

  • Business intelligence

  • Statistical anaysis

  • NoSQL databases

  • Data parallelization

  • Web of data and extractors

  • Scalability and indexing engines

  • Data visualization

  • Streams processing

  • Sectorial analysis

  • Integration of Big Data technologies, etc.

Number of places for new students

Total places available: 50
After 26th July 2019, there will be no admissions for students requiring training complements.

A minimum of 20 students are required to teach the Master's programme.

Reserved places: 5% for students with a certified disability of 33% or more.

Specific admission conditions

Entry profile

  • Graduates in Engineering, mainly graduates in degrees in Computer Engineering or their equivalents in the degrees of the previous system (Technical Engineers in Management Computing, Technical Engineers in Systems Comput and Computer Engineers) and related degrees of the branch of Computer Science, such as Degrees in Information or in Computer Engineering.
  • Graduates in quantitative disciplines (Statistics, Mathematics, etc.).
  • Graduates in studies related to Economics and Business Administration.

Candidates' degrees will be assessed individually to determine the training complements (detailed in later sections) required to ensure that the programme is used properly. These training complements may be compulsory or recommended, depending on the student's profile. The compulsory nature of these complements means that they must be taken in order to start the Master's (see timetable) and they will appear on the student's academic record.

Admission Procedure

1. Currículum Vitae.
2. Motivation letter.
3. Copy of the University Academic Record.
4. Copy of two recommendation letters (recommended).
5. Personal interview with the candidate.
6. Optional English language test if no certificate equivalent to B2 is provided. Good level of English is required to understand technical information and other materials provided.
7. Admission test if the academic committee considers it appropriate.

  • Assessment of the academic record 
  • Skills assessed in the personal interview

The value of these criteria will be 33% of the final assessment.

Subjects, academic staff, competences, teaching guides and final project regulations

For Master's Dissertations to be defended from academic year 2019-20 onwards, it has been established that, along with the Master's Dissertation, the student must submit to the director the summarized report (% of coincidence) given through Turnitin application, once the director has opened the application to obtain the aforementioned report (Approved by the Official Postgraduate and Doctoral Studies Committee, on its regular session dated 24th September 2019).

  • Timetable for Master's Training Complements : from 9/9/2019 to 03/10/2020, Monday to Friday, 12.00-21.00.
  • Timetable for Master's Regular Subjects: Monday to Friday, 18.00-21.00.

The classes of the Master's regular subjects will not overlap those of the training complements in any case.
