María Jesús Such Devesa graduated in Economics and Business Sciences from the University of Valencia and obtained her doctorate in Economics from the University of Alcalá. She is also Master in European Economics from the Ortega y Gasset University Institute, Madrid. She is currently Tenured Professor in the area of Applied Economics of the UAH’s Department of Economics. Since joining the university in 1995 she has held various academic posts, including those of Deputy Director of the University School of Tourism, Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Tourism, and Assistant Dean/Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Economics, Business Science and Tourism.
She has taken part in various national and international research projects, as well as in teaching innovation projects adapting teaching and learning methods to the European Higher Education Area. She is the author of various national and international publications, dealing principally with the economics of tourism. She has carried out training and research stays at Glasgow Caledonian University (United Kingdom, 2005-2006) and the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano (Italy) during several periods between 2007 and 2014. In addition, her teaching and research activity has led her to visit several universities and research centers in different countries as well as to participate in conferences, workshops, seminars and so forth, and to form part of expert panels and scientific and organizing committees.
In 2013, as one outcome of a Ministry of Science and Technology research project (FEM2009-08511), Cuadernos de Economía y Dirección de la Empresa (indexed in JCR-SSCI) published “La investigación española en turismo con impacto internacional (1997-2011): una perspectiva desde la economía y la dirección de la empresa” (Albacete Sáez, C.A.; Fuentes Fuentes, M.M.; and Haro-Domínguez, M.C.), an article which acclaimed María Jesús as one of Spain’s most prolific producers of international impact research related to the economics of tourism.
In 2017, the Revista Española de Documentación Científica (indexed in JCR-SSCI) published “Primera generación de autores con difusión internacional en la investigación turística española”, (López Bonilla, J.M., Granados Perea, C. and López Bonilla, L.M.), which placed María Jesús in the top 10 for her scientific output in the Scopus database for the period 2002-2013.
She coordinates the ATURI (Tourist Sector Analysis and Innovation) research group, a teaching innovation group, and the One Shot Hotels Research Chair of Tourism Innovation. She also serves on the editorial board of several academic journals in the field of tourism analysis.
