Objectives

The primary objective of the Degree in Pharmacy is to produce experts in all aspects related to drugs and medicines, according to the European directives, including social and clinical activities following the pharmaceutical care cycle. This implies acquiring the knowledge, abilities and competences necessary to work professionally.

Competences

Students should be able to identify, obtain, analyse, monitor and produce medicines and other products and raw materials of interest for human and animal health; assess the therapeutic and negative effects of substances with pharmacological effects; apply the scientific method and be aware of the laws, information sources and techniques used for the design and critical evaluation of clinical assays.

They should be capable of advising on administration of medicines, managing pharmacy offices, producing analyses on hygiene and public health issues related to food and the environment.

They should also be able to continue their training in order to specialise and contribute to their professional improvement.

Student profile

Students should be interested in experimental sciences related to pharmacy; show an ability for attention and concentration while working, as well as the capacity for synthesis and analysis, logical reasoning and sensitivity to social problems.

Professional opportunities and officially regulated professions

These graduates can work professionally in a wide range of sectors: they can engage in management, supervision, advise and production of medicines, etc., in a pharmacy or in other biological-health sectors, such as hospitals and primary care centres. They can work in the cosmetics, chemical and food industries, participate in public health studies for prevention, and in the production and quality control of health products. Graduates in Pharmacy are involved in all these fields with a variety of professional profiles, contributing to the improvement of the health of the society they serve.

The Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Alcalá has the advantage of being located in an attractive environment, in a highly equipped campus, near a scientific park. In addition, it is surrounded by an expanding industrial area, "the Henares corridor", with a number of firms working in the pharmaceutical sector. The UAH regularly adopts collaboration agreements with companies in this area, in order to promote relationships between its graduates and the industry.
