Dr José Raúl Fernández del Castillo (born Toral de los Vados - León, 1970) graduated in Physics (1994), holds a Doctorate (1998) and has been a Senior Lecturer at the University of Alcalá since 2002. He has been a visiting lecturer at the University of Lund (2006) and was a member of the DLM Forum European Committee on Archive Management (2004-2007). He has mainly taught in the Higher Technical School of Computer Engineering and in the Faculty of Documentation, in addition to numerous postgraduate programmes as a lecturer and materials coordinator, and is currently co-director of the International MBA in Information Systems, organised jointly by the current Faculty of Economics, Business and Tourism Sciences and by the School of Engineering. He has five three-year periods (2000-2013), two teaching premiums (five-year periods: 1998-2008) plus one being processed, and two research premiums (six-year periods: 1995-2007) recognised by the National Research Evaluation Commission (CNEAI) of the Spanish Ministry of Education.
His research activity has been undertaken in the field of computing through collaboration in various research projects related to solid state physics and automatic knowledge extraction, with those coordinated by the School of Architecture and the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, where he is a member of one of the research groups, notable for their multidisciplinary nature. This work has led to twenty-four articles in international journals, thirty-two communications at international conferences and the supervision of five doctoral theses.
He has been Head of the Higher Technical School of Computer Engineering at the University of Alcalá (2010-2012), of which he was previously deputy head (2006-2010), and has served on various committees and representative bodies.
